GANGS

Constraints experienced

At the beginning of my documentary, it was difficult to use college cameras so i used my iphone to film the most of the documentary. My documentary was about an issue located and situated in mostly Coulsdon College, so using cameras and technology was quite easy because i used an iphone to film the documentary. I filmed all of the location shots on the camera owned by the college, I also used my Mac laptop at home to edit most of the documentary. I found it much more easy filming with the iphone and i am happy that i done that instead of filming on normal cameras Other than these, there were no other limitations or constraints experienced in the process of the making of my documentary.

management of the production

I feel like I managed my production very well as I managed the time in which I am allowed to use cameras to film in my documentary. Every shot was key in my production and I feel I managed this well to the best of my ability because i made sure everyone who i interviewed was aware of what i was trying to do. I managed time outside of school to film shots outside of college grounds as I filmed the first minute of my documentary in my work place located at Crystal Palace Football Club,. I managed to interview people in a very organised matter, in which I organised a time slot for each interviewee to be interviewed. I made sure that i took my time editing the documentary so it can come out the best.

The production process of the documentary I organised myself through the course of the project through making sure I know what shots I had to take and in what conditions I would have to get the clips to portrays the specified atmosphere and emotion I would like at the time. However, this process also made sure that I would have to wait for the right conditions which made it really time consuming and very close towards the deadline of the production. Also within the editing section of the production I managed to improvise by using text to provide information to the audience instead of providing the material through using voice overs due to the filming overlapping with the editing phase, if I had more time to improve I would provide a more extended documentary including the use of voice overs and maybe a few more transitions.

key as

·       Title of project - GANGS

The purpose of this campaign is to raise awareness and to help keep the public safe from violence and also to make sure groups are not stereotyped as well, with this film I am hoping it is the key to bring every local, national or global change to people attitudes about gangs and potentially gang, or criminative activities.
·       Length of film: 21 Mins
·
·       Film completion date January
·       Specific filming dates with location – I would like to use the college-bored room to film some of the interview for this film and I am planning to use within the ending of the month.
·
·       Locations - is permission needed to film at these locations? - There isn't any specific location that I would need permission, Because I will be using college to film more scenes
·       Production team, key people, places, objects that you want within your film - Production team would also be some classmates. And for any location I take into consideration it'll be local to the borough that I am doing my research on which is located in South London, any objects that I would genuinely need would be props such as phones, hats and also music if needed.
·
·       Key messages, stories and points that you wish to communicate My key message in this film would to be don’t judge people because there could be reason to why someone acts this way
·
·       How you intend to use your film (promotional, educational, brand awareness etc.) -  I wish to user my film to educate young teenagers such as showing this documentary in all the local South London secondary schools and colleges to help get some awareness to everyone who wants to know about gangs

·       Target audience - 18+

Identify a community group or cause to make a film on a community issue for. Make contact with your client and discuss their needs and the purpose of the film. Decide what impact you hope the film will have. You will carry out the following activities:

1. ideas generation and research
2. mind-mapping around exploration of themes
3. researching issues and needs
4. ethical considerations
5. develop final ideas into proposal
6. present final proposals to potential client group.
7. negotiating and liaising with client group.

1) My idea: I will be doing a doc on Gang crime in south london i have done a lot of research on BBC news about my topic and this is what i have found out, i have also want to make the London Riots a big topic on my doc, The main purpose of this doc is to make people see that gang crime is a lot in there local area, also to make teenagers be aware of gang activity, i dont want my doc to be dark and depressing but i just want it to have a strong message behind it because it is important to alam the local community and let them know about gangs in south London, Also i will be talking about rappers who rap about killing and drugs selling and how it is inspiring young youths in London to do what rappers are rapping about

2) Mind-mapping around exploration

3)
The Metropolitan Police say 1,103 people have now been arrested in connection with the riots and 654 people have been charged.
Riots in London and around the country saw widespread looting and buildings set alight. Dozens were left homeless after a night of riots on the streets of Tottenham after a peaceful demonstration on 6 August over the death of a man who was shot by police turned violent. Here is a timeline of what happened, starting with most recent events.
Mark Duggan, 29, is shot dead by police at Ferry Lane, Tottenham. The death occurs during an operation where specialist firearm officers and officers from Operation Trident, the unit which deals with gun crime in the African and Caribbean communities, are attempting to carry out an arrest.

4) Camera
     Recorder
     Mic
    Backdrop (Green scene if needed)

5) Ethical consideration: Strotypes are a big factor in my docI social psychology, a stereotype is a thought that can be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things. These thoughts or beliefs may or may not accurately reflect reality.

Working towards a brief redone

Working to a brief on a website in the  media sector is very important because people who are looking on the website need to understand what type of brief it is put also what are the requirements for the role within in the media sector.

In different briefs there are different requirements and some are more descriptive than others. You must follow what the brief says to meet the requirements and in some you are able to change things within the brief and then it will help you and the employer to make it the best they can for the website or a text book. For example a contractual brief is when they client just needs to sign the brief and they need to follow. This is easy to tell than other briefs is because they place where you sign your name and the others they wont need to. This wouldn't be good for a website or text book for the media sector because there will be more opinions and they might want to negotiate with their employees.

The requirements of working to a brief find the one which is best for you and talk to your employees because within the creative media sector it is important as there might be a change and you must read the slowly and correctly in case there might be a mistake or you don't agree with something on it. You need to add everything what is on the brief because everyone will be looking at it and they want it to be as creative as they possibly can. With a website you can add your own ideas but there will be things which the employer will want to be added as well.

A negation brief will fit the creative media sector because you can negiate with them and able to write parts of it and how long you will be able to take on the project and if it is fine with your employer who is needing the website. Also reading the brief is the most important thing and the things you must pay attention to is the final dates, time scale and what is required for you.  There are many opportunities to be found a brief such as learning new skills and developing skills which you already had.

Also you might be able to self develop and by doing this and working to a brief you might want to continue within the media sector now. You will be able to multi task and multi skilling. For example if you are doing a presentation for your employer you must look out for these things and it could create an opportunity for you and you might be able to co-operate with other companies. They might be working on the same assignment but for different reasons such as multi tasking.

A commission brief is for a client commissions a company to fulfill a brief and that it is only given to a company when the client has established a relation with them. This can be useful within the creative media sector because they will be wanting to work on a project and this will help to establish a relation with them. By making a website people are able to gain more understanding and what they will need to follow within a brief and what is also required. Another type of brief is a competition brief  and it is when it is opened to the public which allows a wide range of people to take on the the task and everyone has different talents to create a product. This brief is for free. An example of this brief is if there is a cupcake competition, anyone will be able to enter it as everyone has different talents and as the brief is free anyone is able to enter and try to win.

31.1 Understand the purpose and impact of social action and community media production

Purpose and Impact of social action and community media production.

Social action media is used as a tool to raise awareness of a specific subject or cause, often with the intention of prompting action or change amongst its intended audience. Community media is media produced and circulated within a particular community, which generally places less of an emphasis on profit and focuses more on providing a service to the people within that community. In this post, I will go into greater detail on the subjects of social action and community media, and talk about their relevance and importance.

Social Action Media

Description

Social action media: is  named in the sense that it is media produced with the main aim of social action. Usually a company who dos not make profit uses this form of media to often take on controversial subjects as a way of trying to impact change. Common subjects talked about in social action  media include: smoking, drug addiction, racism and many more. Such films can either be factual or dramatized. Factual films may depict the extremities of the topic in discussion, such as someone facing an impending death as a result of cigarette smoking; not all smokers die of their habit.

Purpose:

Change

As I have mentioned above, the main purpose of social action media is to inspire change. Now this change can take place on a local, national or international level depending on the subject matter and scale of the production. The content of the production also changes with scale. Productions on a local level generally tackle causes relevant to the community. On the other hand, larger scale productions usually approach much more incendiary subjects with the knowing that they will attract more attention. Productions on a national scale will be subject to thorough planning, and much consideration will be put into the distribution. The reasons for this are obvious; large productions will need to reach people all over the country if they wish to have a worthwhile effect. To achieve this a certain level of marketing is required, which wouldn't necessarily be the case if the production was only to be circulated on a small scale. Social media is the modern way to target your audience. Some social media sites such as YouTube allow you to target your demographic more accurately.

Impact

The impact of social action media has been the subject of much discussion. An opinion held by many is that people are becoming de-sensitised to the media in front of them, therefore reducing the effect it has. For example: anti smoking films depicting extreme physical ailments would have shocked people in previous decades. But as people become more accustomed to Photoshop and other forms of image compositing software, people are more sceptical of how realistic such campaigns are. On the other hand, some social action campaigns have proved to be quite effective. Greenpeace social action media is a prime example. When a group of Greenpeace activists were arrested in Russia after protesting against Arctic drilling, an abundance of social action films hit YouTube calling for the release of the protesters. Though it was a long and difficult process, it was announced in December 2013 that the detainees would duly be released. One has to assume that social action media and the public response that followed played a part in this.

HOMEWORK

Brief

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=9227B1D3554DD829!239&authkey=!ALQqrY9blx8Lk8U&ithint=file%2crtf

I would need to develop to completer this task would be to learn mainly on web design to produce the clients website and make sure that I know most of the techniques to produce the clients need as a innovative and unique design. However, what I would like added to this would be what type of information and where I would be able to gather and source the right information from what the clients wants me to present within the site.

he skills i have that will benefit the brief include areas such as i'm good with photoshop as I am a graphic designer, this will aid me when creating a refurbished website as i am not a stranger to web designs. Another strong skill i have is I have good communication skills and always understand briefs in terms of what they are asking me to do. Although i come with these skills i do have my weaknesses, one of my weaknesses include meeting deadlines, this is where my negotiation skills will come in handy as I will talk to the employee formally and discuss extending the deadline.
In terms of whats missing in the brief that i would usually look for would be the pay cut. Although it isn't all about the money and could be used as self promotion, if the money offered does not meet my desires in terms of how many hours of work i have put in etc, this will be an area that will allow me to use my negotiation skills once again to increase the money offered.
